What a treat to hear from Tom Rush. I remember going to see him play at a cozy spot in San Francisco called "The Boarding House". He has the kind of inner quality that is so personal. He know how to make a comfortable spot in your soul and speak to you. He has still got it. Love this album.

Somehow I never managed to catch up with Tom Rush while I was growing up -- we're in the same age group -- but I'm catching up now. This "album" is a fine collection of songs, written and performed with ease, yet care. He's an absolute treasure. I'm looking forward to listening to these songs again and again.

This album is a memorable mix of humor, Hot Tonight, Silly Little Diddle, One Good Man, all penned by Mr. Rush and poignant love songs of sadness and melancholy...I was glad to discover he did not write all the sad love songs, because no one person should feel that much sadness. Cannot wait to see him live in Fall River, MA in September...fantastic...

Not a bad song in the bunch which is just what you'd expect from a Tom Rush album! It's been far too long coming and yet it's been well worth the wait. If you've ever been a Tom Rush fan you can rest assured that you will love the entire album.
Well worth the wait

Despite having one of the most distinctive and captivating voices in folk/americana/alt-country music, Tom Rush is one of the diminishing number of singers who knows that the song is the central thing, and more particularly that it's the lyrics that drive the song. Once again he demonstrates impecable taste in his interpretation (the term "covers" just doesn't seem appropriate here) of other artists' songs. His version of "Drift Away" breathes a new and heartfelt life into the Dobie Gray classic. But it is his inclusion of a song by the brilliant, but criminally overlooked Eliza Gilkyson, "Fall Into the Night", that serves as a reminder as to why we still need to be grateful to Tom for introducing us to the likes of Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor. However, it is not just his performance of the songs of other great songwriters that makes this album worthwhile. His own compositions show a depth and maturity that is found in far too few contemporary singer/songwriters. Clearly the work of a wise and world-weary troubador, his songs are never jaded or cynical as one might expect from one who has been as long as Tom, but are as warm and comfortable as an old leather jacket. Thank you, Tom.

Buy this Album. It's worth every minute of the 35 year wait, Tom Rush has never sounded better.
"The Circle Game," 40 years later

It's so good to hear new (and newly-recorded) material from Tom Rush. It's been 40 years since the release of "The Circle Game," Tom's masterwork, and this collection of songs represents exactly what you'd expect the narrative voice of that early album to sound like all these years later. After years of wandering and searching, "River Song" ("River runs so sweet/ I may not roam no more") represents the conclusion of the quest begun in "Urge for Going" and the later "Child's Song." And "What an Old Lover Knows" is a perfect addendum to "The Circle Game," describing what the child who ended that song at 20 is like at 60.
The music, infused with a country feel, is something of a departure from Tom's straight folk or rock approach in previous recordings as well as in concert, but feels exactly right here. This is a mature, honest, beautiful work.

His voice has not changed. In fact it's just a good as ever. It's a damn good album. Great strings, melodies and beautiful writing. So glad to have him back. Open the window and let the breeze and music take you away. Sav
No Regrets!

There are no regrets that Tom Rush has his first studio album in over 30 years. Tom, glad you're back in the studio! We mised you. This album will fit in nicely with his catologue of work. I liked the reworking of Dobie Gray's tune, Drift Away. Fall Into the Night and Hot Tonight are very listenable at first blush, as is the whole album! Cleary, Tom has not lost his drivin' wheel.
