This album takes me back to occasional evenings back in the mid-90s soaking up Solas at The Abbey in Chicago. Great band; great memories!

For those not familiar with Solas, they are "THE" non-traditional / traditional modern Irish band. The reams of talent that has flowed through them through the years is just mind numbing, and this album, a collection of those tunes, is by far the best for anyone to have in their collection. I agree with "anonymous" that the CD/DVD set is better. I had a livingroom full of people just sit and cry at the beauty of all the ladies singing with Antje Duvekot's "Reasonland." To see these folks in person is indeed one of life's gifts, and the DVD is almost as good. This is music to stir your soul, and to watch Seamus Egan, John Doyle, Mick Mcauley and Winifred Horan play or listen to Karen Casey & Antje sing is, without a doubt, one of the most profound experiences to be enjoyed.

An absolutely superb collection. The live concert -- with every member who ever played in SOLAS -- is a great set of tunes. The second disc of this set (the DVD), which includes the video of the entire album, is an absolute must for any fan of Irish Trad, even though SOLAS is not "pure" trad -- some of the rhythm instruments (guitar, drum kit, congas, etc.) are scorned by purists. For anyone who would argue, I would say that SOLAS makes trad even better -- it stirs the hearts of the people and leaves them begging for more. This is Trad at its best. It is the music that stirs the ancient within the hearts of the contemporary. Incredible!!
