After a few listens, I found the album, unfortunately, boring. There were a few good moments with songs like Sympathy Magic, The Old Religion, and Drink Deep; however, the album as a whole sounds like a rehash of Dance Fever, which sounded like another iteration of High as Hope. Musically, the songs don't have that same punch as those in her first three albums. Lyrically, the lyrics lack creativity and wonder found in songs like Cosmic Love, Never Let Me Go, or Mother. I just couldn’t get lost in the album. I really tried. It just wasn’t for me. Either she really did burn out at 36, or I just outgrew Flo 😿

If you loved Ceremonials, and you fell deep in love with the Breath of Life single, then you may understand why these are some of her best tracks since then. This album is more quiet than some others at times, but the feelings they generate are powerful and personal. Perfume & Milk lyrically spoke to me on such a deep level, so much so that I thought she pulled it from my soul. This album sounds as though Florence was feeling the ripple of women’s energy through time—a blend of divine rage and graceful magic. I’ll be listening on repeat for a long, long time.
