My heart soars every time I listen to this music. It is extremely dynamic, with high highs and awesome awesomeness. Maynard Ferguson (may he rest in peace) still amazes me. I have got way more than my $9.99 worth out of this album, and I HIGHLY recomend this for every jazz-lover out there. As a trumpet player, it has even improved my tone to listen to his music day and night. This is like buying a diamond for 10 bucks.

He was hero to all of us high school trumpet players. I saw him play "Rocky" in a club in Buffalo in mid '80's. I was literally FIVE FEET away from him and I couldn't hear for days afterwards but what a thrill! Anhyone who plays the trumpet is gonna be blown away.

When I first got this album on CD, I said, "Who's Maynard Ferguson" and tossed it aside. When I lost my Miles and Dizzy CDs, I gave this a shot, and listened to it for 4 straight months. To have Maynard's staple songs like MacArthur Park and Gonna Fly Now on one album is SWEET. Rest in peace Maynard.

The Maynard Ferguson big band is fantastic live. I've seen them a few times but the best was at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, CA back in the early 1980's. It's a tiny club and the trumpets (6 of them!!) blew the roof off the place. Felt bad for the guys sitting in the front row (it doubled as a bar). Maynard would empty his spit valve and it would fall all over 'em. Anyway, lots of great songs on this CD and is a good sampling of his modern stuff. He just kept going where Stan Kenton left off!

Maynard Ferguson is the best high brass player I've ever seen in my whole life. I was lucky to see him at Mills High School on February 4th 2006. That was the only time I saw him and I was lucky. Too bad I never met him in person I was planning to get a signature but I got the rest of the signatures from the band including Patrick Hession!!! I've been sad for 4 days since his death. But he ended his life by doing what he did best, and you can never beat that. This is what I say to Maynard: You were the best of the best and I certainly will miss you but someday I could do what you could. I miss you.........We'll all miss you.
