  • Halfway there for me

I am torn between giving this album a 2 star review and a 5 star review. The lyrics and voice to these songs are excellent. Mr. Dylan never had a great voice so this is classic Dylan with some age added. (The man is in his 80s!) The songs themselves have spectacular lyrics. I would venture to say this is one of his best songwriting efforts in many years. Where it falls short for me is the jazzy sound of the album. While there are a few standouts, particularly the first and last track, most of it has between a jazz and a rockabilly feel to it. While I don’t necessarily fault Bob for that, it’s just not the Dylan that I appreciate. This is one of those albums that I listen to once, say that he’s still got it from a songwriting perspective, and don’t listen to again because I don’t really like the musical style. Maybe I am stuck on the old Bob Dylan but realize that artists grow and change, especially with age. I was on board for his change from acoustic to electric, from main stream to christian and back, and to covering Frank Sinatra. I just can’t get into the groove of this album from a musical standpoint.

20 minute song on the most overrated, and the biggest womanizing President of all time, JFK, boring, his music, Bob's music, is as dead as JFK.

Dylan once said that he didn’t know how to write songs like he used to and that he had lost the magic. With all do respect to Mr. Dylan, he is a bold faced liar, as this album is simply fantastic; It contains multitudes in fact.

I have all of Dylan’s music. No joke, listen to the amazing songs. This is among the finest pieces of work in his career. Truly impactful, inspired genius. Greatest music I have heard in a very long time.

His best album since Modern Times. Mother of Muses is the stand out for me, all the rest are excellent. He put on a great concert in October of 2019, hope he can hit the road again!

Thanks so very much for giving us this parting gift. The man in the long black coat is not far from Dylan's front door and that realization has driven one of the world's true artists to deliver a somber, elegiac final masterpiece. At 79 Dylan's voice still is capable of delivering a heartfelt, nuanced performance but it has taken on a Muddy Waters growl and the record is certainly the better for this. Treasure this. For one of the world's last great artists has delivered his swan song.

I’m an amateur fan, mostly into his 63-67 stuff, but Jesus this record is incredible. This album is like Mozart’s Requiem, except instead of Bob’s death it’s the eulogy of the American Dream.
  • Soooo happy he made a new album
