Honestly

This guy has always had a perfect but completely unique pop voice. Amazing when you see him live. And honestly, how many singer/songwriters that had number one songs in the Eighties are writing and performing anything as good as Waite/Kyle Cook songs on this record? If You Ever Get Lonely is as good as anything John Waite haseven written and sung. Like one other reviewer wrote, if you haven't seen this show, get this record and get a ticket. Very, very worth the money and effort.
See THIS SHOW somewhere, somehow

If you like rock music and have never seen John Waite live, go online and find out when he is playing a town near you. You will be very glad you did it. I saw him last summer at outdoor show that he headlined in a smallish Midwest town about an hour from my home. It was the town's annual party/concert. Great weather. 1500-2000 people on a sloping lawn. John Waite was over-the-top strong, stunning really, and you could feel crowd realize that they were seeing a rock star deliver the goods live. Forty minutes into the show and about 15 seconds into Missing You about 200 people rose from the lawn like smiling, swaying zombies and moved to the front. I'd never seen anything like it. But just as interesting at the music fan level, I noticed how people responded to the new Waite/Kyle Cook songs, especially If You Ever Get Lonely. I wouldn't have really expected anyone to stop and listen to new songs from John Waite but by the second verse of Lonely, Evil and Better Off the crowd was fully tuned in. I don't think this record 100% percent captures how good J. Waite is live but it comes pretty close. Definitely worth the money. Go get your tickets. You will be glad.

John is an awesome musician and has assembled a rockin` band to back him. But only 8 songs? C`mon, John…you have a 30 year catalog of tunes we still want to hear that should have made this a double album. Your ability is unparalleled, but as a fan I was hoping for more.

I'll preface by saying, John Waite fan since the 70's...The Babys were a huge part of it for me. I saw him in SF at the 1st night of his 1st ever solo tour in the early 80's at The Old Waldorf. That set the stage for his solo career...he's one of my Top 5 voices to listen to, and his material is always diverse...he is truly a songwriter, and not just trying to churn out tunes for the sake of it. You can actually feel what he's singing.
So this album, while only about half of a normal set is great. It's raw, and that is really what live is all about. Not fixing, adding, and sterilizing the music. I commend him for that. Of course, his voice sounds great, and so...if you like JW, add this to your collection. Now.

I used to twirl around my living room to The Babys when I was 12 or 13 years old. I have loved his music but I just didn't know that he could ROCK. And seriously rock! His recent show at the Canyon Club in SoCal of the best live shows I have ever seen and I am tough to bowl over. Buy this album and buy Rough & Tumble. You will love both.
