Chess In Concert (Live)

Sorry all negative reviews. This is a fabulous ensemble.

There is nothing like this musical out there! All I have to say is that this is a musical I see anyone enjoying.

I don't get all the criticisms I see of Idina Menzel as Florence in this version of "Chess". I think she's freaking fantastic in the role. Is she different than Elaine Paige? Of course she is. But I don't think she was miscast at all in this role and is superb. She blends well with both Adam & Josh....two totally different voices. Speaking of which....both men are perfectly cast in these roles. The only disappointment I had in casting was the arbiter...too smooth, too "serenade-like"...not enough grit. Also, something about the sound quality is a bit off. It's not as clean in some places as it should be. You don't get the full effect when Josh sings "Anthem". I saw him sing it live when he first did this show with Adam in NY in 2003 and the in person rendition was incredible! But overall, GREAT cast, great show.

I'm sorry, but why does Idina Menzel sing like that?

What a musical! I'm disappointed in whoever fit Adam Pascal's mic...I assume its him, could be Idina Menzel. The mic is too close to someone's mouth and you get this Darth Vader sound of heavy breathing in some of the tracks...annoying. But what great music and artists!!

NO! I REALLY REALLY WANTED THE DEAL! WHY IS IT ON 'ALBUM ONLY"!? WHHHHYYYYY!!!???!?!?!?

Everyone did a pretty good job, but it feels like they are just singing, but not acting. It supposed to be a musical, were people are singing, acting dancing. Even it was live, its still missing the reality of a play.

Never was impressed with the original, but the 'dream' cast of this remake grabbed my attention. The majority of the performers are fabulous (Josh, Idina and Kerry shine magnificently) and the orchestral arrangement is absolutely beautiful. If the original had held these elements -- and this cast -- perhaps it wouldn't have flopped so dramatically. Three thumbs way up!

Though "Someone Else's Story" is the most popular selction on the CD, I don't think Kerry Ellis is credited HALF as much as she should be for her beautiful voice. Everyone is all about Idina, who I also love, and true, she is a wonderful singer, but what about Kerry? Just last year I saw Kerry Ellis on Broadway in Wicked, and she makes a gorgeous, brilliant Elphaba. So congratulations to Kerry , who perhaps one of Broadway's most beautiful voices!
